The Link Between Obstructive Sleep Apnoea and Neurodegeneration and Cognition

چکیده
Abstract Purpose of Review Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is increasingly found to have an impact on neurodegeneration. In this review, we summarise recent findings the association between OSA and brain morphology, cognition, processes related Alzheimer’s dementia (AD) Parkinson’s disease (PD). Recent Findings Associations alterations in grey white matter, diffusivity, deficits memory, attention, executive control were reported. Furthermore, was correlated with higher risks developing AD PD associated pathophysiology. Treatment alleviate but not reverse some damage. Summary There are strong indications that plays a major role neurodegenerative processes. The broad picture however remains elusive, likely due insufficient sample sizes, heterogeneous outcomes, definitions failing quantify disorder’s sub-processes. While studies resolving these issues required, available evidence shows be promising target slow neurodegeneration delay onset disorders.

Obstructive sleep apnoea and anaesthesia
Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) correlates positively with obesity and age, both of which are becoming increasingly prevalent. Obstructive sleep apnoea occurs much more frequently in clinical practice than formerly diagnosed, and that this condition represents complex challenges for difficulty in mask ventilation, laryngoscopic intubation, accelerated arterial desaturation, postoperative monitor...
متن کاملDriving and obstructive sleep apnoea.
Driving is a skill requiring many simultaneous cerebral activities, mainly eye-hand coordination with accurate speed and direction computations. This high level of activity requires full concentration, as evidenced by the higher accident rates in those who use mobile phones while driving. There is very good evidence that inadequate sleep is an important cause of fatigue-related driving accident...

To the Editor—We read with interest the article by Ng et al in the February 2004 issue of the Hong Kong Medical Journal. We concur with the authors’ view that obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) and obesity present a double challenge to all practising paediatricians and family doctors alike. To provide adequate resources to tackle the problem, the magnitude of the problem needs to be quantified in t...

متن کاملHypertension and obstructive sleep apnoea
Several epidemiological and experimental studies have demonstrated a close relationship between sleep-disordered breathing and cardiovascular disease. Obstructive sleep apnoea has been linked to hypertension in a dose-dependant and time-related manner. Postulated underlying mechanisms involve autonomic nervous system alterations, chemoreceptor and baroreceptor responsiveness impairment, higher ...
